Bamboo Seed
Taru hijau The community has a reforestation program around November every year
Taru Hijau Community pioneered bamboo nurseries in the surrounding area. The reason why bamboo was chosen for seedlings is because bamboo has special qualities.
Bamboo is a plant that has the function of holding the soil because it has strong fibrous roots like a web that binds together.
Bamboo has the ability to hold water and store large amounts of water in its stems. A large bamboo clump of 25 stems can store 500 L of water. The ability of bamboo plants to produce oxygen is higher than other hard trees.
Bamboo has high adaptability to dry environments. Bamboo sticks are a material for various woven and other types of crafts. Most household furniture is made from bamboo, such as chairs, and parts of the house, including roof supports and flaps, are made from bamboo (bedeg/gedeg).
This nursery activity requires ongoing education and support which can later support tree planters in upstream areas as part of expanding catchment areas.
