Why Project Stop Luutung?

Lutung is a word often used in Balinese folklore, which means ape or monkey. One of the famous folklore titles in the past was I Lutung teken I Kekue (Monkey and Tortoise). The Melenia generation and Gen Z may barely know the Balinese word lutung.

We don't discuss the story, but the play on words becomes Luu tung. Luu means trash in Balinese and tung means throw. Luu tung we mean throwing rubbish carelessly. Langurs (monkeys) that steal bananas eat the contents and throw the skin carelessly.

The meaning in question is that for people who throw rubbish carelessly, we have the connotation of being a langur or monkey. If there are people who don't understand how to protect the environment, they still litter carelessly, meaning that monkey shadows (primitive behavior) still control that person.

It's not just anyone who visits this area...

Because don't throw it away carelessly

Sebaliknya?

Luu.. tung..🐵🙈🙉🙊🐒

Real mongkey

Stopluutung is a campaign or program that aims to stop littering, especially in Bali, and its name comes from a combination of three words:

  • Stop

  • Luu: Derived from Balinese which means 'trash'

  • Tung: Derived from Balinese which means 'to throw away carelessly'

Le Lutung
